This just makes me wish I went to see one of their shows back in the 70's.

Perfect, thanks Andy! It's been ages since these were posted on the old forum, I've had trouble tracking the posts down.
Question: The housings for the individual X-mas lights are ..pieces of piping, with plastic sheet squares glued on?
I want to do something similar just for the sake of displaying multiple music figs, though I'll probably vary the lighting arrangement. Maybe add some sort of screen (ala Floyd's shows) or draped cloth in the back, with some mock music festival logo on it.

Yes, the cans are PVC plumbing pipes. I cut them to size then spray painted the insides chrome. I then glued on plastic squares cut from overhead projector sheets (Steve Gleason gave me that idea). With the square side down and a marble blocking the opening, I then spray painted them flat black. The lights sequence through various patterns which give quite a show! They're slightly smaller than the cans so I use small cuts of plastic tubing stuffed into the cans and the lights fit snuggly inside them.I just wanted an even pattern for my first go around so I used cut up pieces of grid work you find in florescent lights.
